When you have Nothing to Do, Make Mood Boards: A Story Time

How did it come to this?

Just a story time and profile check, I prefer phones over laptops or computers. I’ll be stuck with using my phone and would rather have my brother use our shared laptop. To me, it’s more easier to use, and overall, I’ve just grown to use it more.

So imagine to my surprise when my phone broke and wouldn’t open because of an overnight incident. Of course, as a little punishment for my irresponsibility, I would have to get it fixed and be returned to me at the end of the week.

It was a fine experience; most of the days went by with online classes on my brother’s phone anyway, but the thing is, what do I do in my free time? My brother lent me the laptop but It wasn’t the same. I can't access my messenger account, my Spotify account is glitching on the laptop, and YouTube is just an easy choice that I just couldn’t use; I prefer watching my videos laying down and on my bed, my brother does not like me taking his laptop.

With limited options, I just scrolled to whatever I can open, played games, got bored, repeat. But then it suddenly hit me out of nowhere; what if I just did a mood board out of boredom? This was my first time doing it so might as well just go on with it.

Mood Board Making

My first reference was to base it of what “mood” I would want to do. The decision was easy, very: characters. I would base my mood board from characters. A short summary of the first character is simple: supportive, energetic jock whose main color is yellow. Step one complete, now to find a template, also easy, Canva is there. Second, also complete.

The third step was the actual challenge; finding the photos fit for my character. This character is more personal to me, so finding the exact vibes that I was looking for was.. something. Pinterest is the one and only source that I used to find pictures. I searched up my prompts and.. they were not giving. Maybe it was a personal taste thing but truly, I had to search deeper, and I did. I went, analyzed, look for things again, and then finally, all the needed photos were complete. There was a new problem though, the color combinations.

Yes, I downloaded pictures that fit the character, but how would it go with the other pictures to form the board? I inserted the pictures to the template and.. the harmony was not there. Luckily for me, Canva is an easy app to work around. I adjusted the colors to my liking, fitting the color scheme of the character. It took some time but in the end, all my efforts were worth it. This fun little activity is just what I needed to get my mind off of things and just relax. To see myself this dedicated with this small project for a day was something I did not expect. I did many more after the first one and had more efforts and quality done than the last. It may not be a peak of interest to others but for me, this is a good way to show off what it’s like to be that in need of a something to do, it makes your mind go way more creative.
