So, hello, dessert lovers! Let's talk about a childhood obsession that stuck with me as I grew up. We're diving into the warm, comforting world of champorado.
I remember vividly when I was in third grade how I continuously bugged my tita to cook that “chocolate rice” that I had first tasted at a friend’s house. It was nothing like I had ever tasted before. I'd whine, day after day just to get another taste of that chocolatey goodness. I was a champorado-obsessed little kid! I mean, isn’t it funny how a single taste can activate one’s sweet tooth?
So, what is champorado?
Champorado is a popular filipino dessert that is made up of sticky rice, chocolate (Tablea or even Milo), and mixed with evaporated milk after, or if you want, powdered milk. Doesn’t that sound mouth-watering already? It is really up to your preference how you can make it extra yummy. It is typically served warm, perfect for cold and rainy mornings, or honestly even when you just crave it. ‘Cause who doesn’t love champorado?
Here’s the fun part: adding your signature touch.
To make it more fun, you can always choose the perfect pairing for your champorado. Here is what’s traditionally used as a topping or a side pairing of champorado:
Tuyo (dried fish)
Evaporated milk (the classic pairing of champorado)
Condensed milk
These are only a few options of what we can add to a champorado. It is completely up to you if you want to add more! And of course, you can always pair it with a warm cup of coffee or milk to really feel that cozy vibe.
Honestly, when I think of champorado, I can’t help but look back on my childhood days where I would wake up with the familiar smell of chocolate, perfectly paired with the cold breeze of a rainy morning.
There are hundreds of delicious filipino desserts that I could choose from. But this one? This one, I will always choose. Eating champorado is like feeling a nostalgic hug to my soul, it’s like a time machine that instantly brings me back to my childhood days and it reminds me of home. So, what are you waiting for? Go make your own, unique champorado and have a taste of homemade comfort!
