A Peek in my Spotify Wrapped
Alas, as a yearly tradition for Spotify users, Spotify Wrapped has now been given to users in December of 2024. Spotify Wrapped shows the listeners their personal use of Spotify throughout the year, sharing their favorite music, songs, artists, just anything pertaining how they used Spotify in the last 12 months of 2024. Of course, I too, am one of those Spotify users. I love Spotify, I use it almost everyday. However, even as a frequentist, the results were not what I expected. Let me tell you about my reactions to my Spotify Wrapped.
Leave me and my 92,300 Minutes of Listening in Spotify Alone
Let's start with how much I even used Spotify in the first place. Before that, let's just put this out there as well, music surrounds my life. It's to the point I gathered all of my favorite songs in one playlist, people judge me for that. It's almost a backbone to my everyday life. Doing my everyday chores? Yes there's music. Studying? Yes, though I still believe music distracts the brain, I don't care, that's how far I would go just to listen to music. From my walks in public places to laying awake in the middle of nights, contemplating, music truly surrounds me.
Yes, I was aware of how much I used Spotify as a background music to fit my current moods, but what I was not aware of is truly, how much in a year. I never thought about it, it's just extra mathematics. So imagine my surprise when they revealed the answer to that. 92,300 minutes. "Where did you find the time?", even Spotify asked me, even I asked myself. I was one of the top 2% of listeners worldwide. I did the math, it makes up 17% of my year, and yet I was one of the 2% users who achieved this
Thinking about it now, it makes sense. I connect to music more than I truly thought about. Even as I write this, I have Spotify in my background. To think, all the times I laid awake with my phone quietly providing me company with tunes, how it's practically elevator music as I do my chores, it all adds up. Reflecting more, it says a lot on how I really appreciated music to be part of my life. It's practically embedded in my life. I can't see a world without music.
My Personal Favorites.. As Expected, Honestly
Honestly, this part was the only time my expectations were correct. I’m gonna share my top 2 favorite artists: Taylor Swift & DPR Ian. Taylor Swift was obvious in my eyes. I only delved into her music more earlier in 2024, slowly making her grow more. And with the release of her new album, it’s just new music that I would surely listen to more later in the year. More songs in my playlist.
The 2nd was quite a surprise that he even made it to top 2, I mean, I expected him lower but to be honest, he deserves it. DPR Ian made it in my top 2 favorite artists list. I discovered him out of the blue: a recommended song from Spotify themselves. Normally, I would discover a song from any outside source. I contemplated skipping but I decided to give it an ear. It was almost fate to have my first impressions of his works like this. His song “Don’t Go Insane”, the very first song I heard from him, connected to me. It clicked gears in my brain, this song is good. He is one of the very few artists where I would delve myself more into his works. I listened to more of his songs, bangers after bangers, and I added a lot of them to my playlist in just a day. Spotify, you’re truly remarkable, for making me discover a gem of an artist.
“How could you describe your music taste?” My answer is yes 👍😁👍
Okay, you may have read this at some point, but to answer you, yes, I really gather all my favorite songs in one playlist. Efficient? Yes, Organized? Very much no. Before I reached 2024, that playlist reached 1,000 songs. This was the exact reason why my music tastes like this.
If you asked me what my music taste is, I’ll say it’s complicated. Spotify proved that to me in my Wrapped as well. I won’t reveal what my top 5 songs but to sum it up accordingly, it ranges from slow love songs to songs that make you feel ecstatic and head bang your head. Even my 5th most listened song is something that was so out of place from this.
This reflects on what type of person I am. Yes, I may not organize these but the point still stands, I am in love with creativity. The thought of how a variety of genres evoked my interest shows how uniqueness is present in every artist and song that I enjoy. And for me to love all these songs in my playlist shows how I am even more inclined to have an open mind, that every song, we can find beauty, in one way or another, music is subjective after all.
Reflections & Future Expectations
Basically, I can’t live without music. It’s something that I appreciate in our everyday lives. I really grew a lot in terms of music in those last 2 months. I opened up to more music outside my comfort zone, discovering gems of artists and songs. I’d expect a lot, and I mean, A LOT more variety of songs and artists from my one and only diverse playlist upon going into 2025.
